Poodle Mix Dogs

Poodles are undeniably some of the most popular pooches on the planet. Among other interesting facts about poodles, these pups originate from Germany, not France, and were bred to be water dogs.

Poodle fanatics will be the first to tell you this breed is loved for its intelligence, fun-loving nature, and trainability. Poodles also have hypoallergenic coats, making them desirable pets for those with allergies.

These qualities make poodles perfect candidates for crossbreeding with other beloved breeds. Continue reading to learn more about some of the best Poodle mix dogs.

Maltese Shih Tzu Poodle Mix

Maltese Shih Tzu Poodle mixes, or Malshipoos, are adorable designer doggies from the United States. These small, teddy bear-like pups are a newer hybrid, making them quite rare.

As a multi-generational breed, parents need to be various combinations of the three original species to make a Malshipoo. So, you won’t find them on formal dog registries, nor will you find these pooches looking the same.

If you’re curious about the traits of the Malshipoo, check out Poodles vs. Shih Tzus to get an idea of some of the core characteristics of this crossbreed.

Irish Doodle

The Irish Doodle, or Irish Setter Poodle mix, is known as one of the best-behaved dog breeds you can get. These intelligent and affectionate pups are great family pets.

The Irish Doodle inherited the social and easygoing nature of the Irish Setter. It also inherited the deep red color of the Setter’s coat and its quiet demeanor. These pups love quality time with their owners and make great companions.

German Shepherd Poodle Mix

German Shepherd Poodle mixes, or Shepadoodles, were bred with athleticism and intelligence in mind. These two working dogs, both of German origin, are dependable and easily trainable.

The Shepadoodle requires a lot of physical activity and mental stimulation due to its parents’ favorable genetics. Aside from intellect, this crossbreed is incredibly friendly and a great family pet.

Whoodle

This next crossbreed is a bit trickier to identify by its nickname. You’re likely thinking, “What is a Whoodle?” This mixed-breed dog is a combination of a Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier and a Poodle. However, “Whoodle” is far easier to remember.

With their friendly and social personalities, these doggies are the perfect companion for those who love affectionate pets. Whoodles tend to be medium-sized and have a prominent terrier-like face.

Bernedoodle

The term Bernedoodle may be easier to decipher, but if not, this doggo is a Bernese Mountain Dog Poodle mix. To some, the giant Bernese and the variably sized Poodle breed may seem like an odd combination.

However, these mixed dogs make adorable, scruffy-looking goofballs who are particularly kid-friendly. They are clever canines who are also gentle and easy to train.

Cavapoochon

If you love smaller dogs, you’ll likely adore the Cavapoochon. This hybrid breed is made up of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Toy Poodle, and Bichon Frise. It’s an adorable toy breed with a hypoallergenic coat and a long lifespan.

Not to be confused with a Cavapoo, which excludes the Bichon Frise, the Cavapoochon retains its puppy-like appearance and personality. While the King Charles Spaniels can be moody, this is canceled out by the Toy Poodle’s temperament, which is sweet, loyal, and friendly.

Goldendoodle

Arguably the most popular poodle mix, the Goldendoodle is a combination of the ultra-popular Golden Retriever and the Poodle. Known to be incredibly athletic, social, and friendly, this intelligent breed thrives as a water dog and, true to its name, a retriever.

This pooch can be large, medium, or small, depending on which Poodle it’s mixed with. Goldendoodles are also hypoallergenic and have a variety of coat textures and colors.

Tips for Goldendoodle Grooming

As for grooming a Goldendoodle, you’ll need regular sessions to maintain your Doodle’s healthy coat. Because of its Poodle genetics, the Goldendoodle doesn’t shed very much, but its curly coat can quickly become knotty without proper care. It’s best to perform a full groom (bath included) every four to six weeks. Be sure to brush your Doodle at least once a week.

Mini Goldendoodle

Mini Goldendoodles aren’t much different from regular Goldendoodles aside from their size. Minis are a cross between the Golden Retriever and a Miniature or Toy Poodle.

This tiny pup is sought after for its low-shedding coat, outgoing personality, intelligence, and cute appearance. Minis also have hypoallergenic coats but can have a looser curl texture than the standard Goldendoodle.

Mini Goldendoodle vs. Goldendoodle

In the Mini Goldendoodle vs. Goldendoodle debate, you’ll find more similarities than differences between these pooches. Both Doodles are friendly and sociable family pets that are intelligent and active.

These dogs need a lot of mental stimulation and exercise to stay happy. As for their differences, size and appearance are the most prominent factors. A Mini may weigh between 15 to 35 pounds, whereas a standard Goldendoodle can be between 50 and 90 pounds.

Labradoodle

Goldendoodle or Labradoodle? It’s a tough question to answer, but we’ve got you covered. Labradoodles are arguably not all that different from Goldendoodles, aside from their size and coat colors. They tend to be bigger and have more coat colors than Goldendoodles.

These pooches are a hybrid of a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. They come in three different sizes; standard, medium, and average. The standard is the largest, while the average is the smallest. Labradoodles also have hypoallergenic coats, but the texture tends to be less curly.

Labradoodle Temperament

A Labradoodle’s temperament can be described as gentle, even-tempered, and slightly more reserved than a Goldendoodle. Although they won’t be watchdogs, Labradoodles have all the intellect of a Poodle with the affectionate nature of a Labrador. These pups are great for first-time dog owners thanks to their intuitive temperament and trainability.

Golden Mountain Doodle

Finally, we have the Golden Mountain Doodle or Golden Retriever, Bernese Mountain Dog, and Poodle mix. Like the Malshipoo, this crossbreed is multi-generational and, as a result, can vary in appearance.

If you’re not fussed about looks, you might be thrilled to know that this combination of breeds makes one of the least aggressive dog hybrids. These pups have a loving, friendly, and submissive personality while being clever and easy to train.

Labradoodles have taken over the world and our hearts. These fluffy dogs are a favorite of many for their personality and lovable goofiness. Add in the fact that they are incredibly intelligent and it sounds like the perfect dog has been found. But, there is more than just goofiness to these dogs when it comes …
